Rubber insulating gloves are the primary hand protection for work on or near energized conductors. We stock Class 00 through Class 4 rubber insulating gloves from Novax® (PIP®) and Salsbury in 11" to 18" lengths, with straight, bell, contour and rolled cuffs, plus matching leather protectors.
Choosing the Right Glove Class
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.137, Table I-4, sets a maximum use voltage (AC rms) for each class:
Class 00 – 500 V
Class 0 – 1,000 V
Class 1 – 7,500 V
Class 2 – 17,000 V
Class 3 – 26,500 V
Class 4 – 36,000 V
Choose a class whose maximum use voltage is at or above the voltage of the system being worked.
Inspection and Retesting
OSHA requires insulating gloves to be inspected and air-tested before each day's use, and electrically tested before first issue and every 6 months after that (Table I-5). Our dielectric glove testing service covers the retest cycle: cleaning, inspection, electrical proof testing and dated certification.
